Afya Njema is a Swahili word meaning good health. Under the banner of Afya Njema, Health for Nations has decided to be in the forefront and fight the battle against some of the killer diseases like Diabetes and Hypertension. The health initiative is sponsored by Kenyans and Americans in the USA and supported by volunteers in Kenya.
Our mission is to delay or prevent diabetes and hypertension by promoting public awareness, lifestyle changes, and early detection through screening, treatment, training and education to the people.
Our initial project will focus in Kenya and in the future we are planning to extend our help to the eastern and central Africa.
The goals of the Afya Njema Project are
- Developing comprehensive community- based screening for diabetes, hypertension and other preventable and manageable health issues
- To modify lifestyle and behaviors at individual, family and community levels that would help in reducing the incidence of diabetes, hypertension and their complications
- To promote public awareness through media, literature materials, churches and established organizations.
Health for Nations will be conducting continuous recruitment of nurses, dieticians, doctors, pharmacist and other volunteers in America to travel to Kenya at least twice a year to join hands with other volunteers on the ground.
Our partners in kenya include churches, healthcare institutions and local community leaders.
